The Bakkie For Work – Mahindra Bolero

Mahindra Bolero bakkie

The Mahindra Bolero is made for work

A bakkie is not a just bakkie, and all bakkies are not the same. Bakkies used to be work vehicles, for farmers and builders and people who needed to move stuff efficiently, fuss-free, and at the lowest practical cost. Sure, you can find cheaper than the Mahindra Bolero, and you can definitely find much more expensive. But then you will get either nasty or too fancy for real work. The Bolero is the bakkie in the old-school sense, rugged, practical, affordable, there to help you do your job.

So, if the Bolero is the bakkie owner’s bakkie, why are there seven models to choose from? A bakkie is a bakkie, right, so why is there a R100K difference between the base model and top choice? Let’s look at what you will get for what and you can make up your mind on which Bolero you need.

The Mahindra Bolero Maxitruck Plus – from R170 000*

This is the base model. It is not fancy, it is not fast, but it won’t cost the earth and it will get the job done. If you scratch it or knock out a taillight on the site, you would swear a bit, but not too much.

The Maxitruck comes with a slow revving, 46kW 195 Nm engine, a massive 1 150kg payload, power steering and a whole lot of peace of mind. It has the biggest load box of them all.

The Mahindra Bolero Loader 4 x 2 – from R189 999*

Another workhorse, but with the 74kW, 238Nm turbo-diesel. A bit more powerful, slightly fancier, but still a working bakkie like the Maxitruck.

Mahindra Bolero Dropside 4×2 – from R195 999*

As the name suggests, the Dropside has a more accessible load bed. If you have ever had to load or unload heavy, bulky cargo – gravel or rubble – you will immediately see where the Dropside is going. Same engine as the Loader.

Mahindra Bolero Single Cab 4×2 – from R200 999*

This is the bakkie for the owner-foreman or the guy in charge of the site, costs slightly more, but still a workhorse. Aircon means a lot in summer.

Mahindra Bolero Double Cab 4×2 – from R237 999*

You know when you have to take a couple of clients to the dirty, muddy site? Or when you need a bakkie for the week, but a car for the family for the weekend? This is it. Same as the single cab, more seats. And a side step.

Mahindra Bolero Single Cab 4×4 – from R235 999*

Okay, we won’t tell anybody, and maybe your site is truly off-site, so you really need a 4×4. Nice though, that it is also very good at launching the boat or towing the caravan. But whatever you need it for, you will struggle to find a full-sized 4×4 at this price.

Mahindra Bolero Double Cab 4×4 – from R270 999*

Same bakkie as the Single Cab 4×4, but more seats. Gives you status, but it is not pretentious.

And there you have it

Although the differences in models are not enormous, the Bolero range does cover a wide range of bakkie requirements. We won’t try and tell you which Bolero is right for you – you know your business best. Best you have a look at the full range of Mahindra Bolero bakkies and decide which one you need.
