From time to time someone produces a car that surprises everyone and in this case Mahindra has made a real statement with the KUV100. Not only does it sport an appealing price tag, it’s also packed with loads of neat features and accessories.

Also referred to as a ‘Kool Utility Vehicle’, the KUV100 is a compact SUV and competes with the Hyundai Grand i10, Renault Sandero, Toyota Etios Cross and Suzuki Swift. The raised ride height certainly offers a more rugged and versatile element which is the hallmark of today’s SUV.

Styling and Features of the KUV100

The KUV100 is available in three models, the K4+, K6+, and the K8+ all powered by the new mFalcon engines known for excellent fuel economy and remarkably low maintenance costs. The monocoque platform performs really well under South African driving conditions and makes the KUV100 stand tall against other hatchbacks. The impressive front grill and striking headlamps ensures that the KUV100 fits well on the design and styling scale. The cabin is modernized and spacious enough to comfortably fit 4 adults with plenty of useful space in-between.

Standard features on the KUV100 K4+ include a full-sized spare wheel, 14-inch steel wheels, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, air-conditioning, electric windows, manual central locking and a folding rear seat.

The KUV100 K6+ adds considerably to the already stylish KUV100 with chrome accents for the grille, colour-coded door handles, exterior mirrors and door-side cladding. The interior offers a 3.5-inch multi-information display, Bluetooth, USB port and a multifunction steering wheel.

At the very top, the KUV100 K8+ not only features all the K6+ accessories, it also includes alloy wheels, front and rear fog lights, daytime running lights and a start-stop system exclusive to the turbodiesel model.

K6+ and K8+ models come with a two-year/50 000km service which is optional on the K4+.

Diesel or Petrol?

The K4+ only has a petrol engine on offer producing 61 kW at 5 500 rpm with torque peak of 115 Nm between 3 500 and 3 600 rpm. Fuel consumption is said to be 5.9 litres/100km.

The K6+ and K8+ diesel engines produce 57 kW at 3 750 rpm with 190 Nm of torque which injects some welcome grunt into the driving experience. The diesel engines are more economical at 4.4 litres/100km mainly thanks to the Power/Eco mode and stop-start technology.

What About Safety?

Mahindra has taken safety seriously and offers advanced safety features such as ABS with EBD, CBC, Duel Passenger and Driver Airbags in all 3 of the KUV100 variants. With these safety features in mind, attractive pricing, the exceptional engines and fuel consumption, this compact SUV could become a popular sight all over the country.
